Scrapbook in a Box

I've scheduled my next class for October 19th at 6:00. It's a scrapbook in a box or explosion album class. The class fee is $25 and it includes your choice of Simply Scrappin' kits from the catalog. You can find these on page 164-167. With the kit you can make two albums and cards to go with them! At the class, you'll have time to completely make and decorate one album, if you bring pictures or you can just make both albums to take home and decorate on your own. If you'd like to see what one of these boxes look like, you can check out my scrapbook.com gallery here.

Midnight Crop

Hey everyone! I'm having a midnight crop on Friday, September 11th. It's a time to get together with friends and create away! I'll have my non-consumable supplies available (stamps, ink, dies). Just bring your consumables (paper, adhesive) and any other "stuff" you want to create with. You may just have that set or punch a friend was looking to borrow for the night!

You're welcome to bring something to drink or a little appetizer to share. I'll have a couple ready for you, too!

The time is from 6:00 - 12:00. See you then!

Thank You

This is not a stamping post so it's a little off my usual topic. It's a thank you to all the soldiers that do their job so that we can do ours in freedom. If you've never seen Bakerella's site, you have to go check her out. If you've seen some of the little cake balls David and I have made on sticks...they are poor copies of her genius! She's make some Thank You cake balls that I just had to share with you! Hope you have a great fourth!

Homemade Envelope Glue

At our class last night, we made our own envelopes. So, of course you need a way to seal it shut. I Googled some envelope glue recipes and I'll share them with you, but I haven't tried any. Here's the first result from Friendship by Mail. They have several recipes:

ENVELOPE GLUE RECIPE #1 - Licky Sticky Glue from Karen Craig:

Ingredients:

1 tsp Elmer's Glue

1/2 tsp. vinegar

2 drops mint flavoring

WOW.,. is that simple or what? Thank You Karen!

ENVELOPE GLUE RECIPE #2:

Ingredients:

6 tablespoons white vinegar

(4) 0.1 oz. packets unflavored gelatin

1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or any flavor that you like)

Directions:

Bring vinegar to a boil in a small pan.

Add gelatin and stir until dissolved.

Add extract and stir until mixed.

Brush on thin layer onto back of an envelope flap...Let dry.

Moisten to apply.

Store excess glue in a sealed container and melt again for future use by putting in a pan of warm water.

ENVELOPE GLUE RECIPE #3:

Bring the vinegar to a boil (18 tablespoons).

Add gelatin (1 small package).

Stir until completely dissolved.

Pour into a small container with a tight seal.

Allow to cool.

When mixture is cool, brush onto handmade envelopes.

Allow to dry.

Wet when ready to seal the envelope. Store the remaining mixture for later!

ENVELOPE GLUE RECIPE #4:

Ingredients:

6 tablespoons white vinegar 4 1 oz. packets unflavored gelatin 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or any flavor that you like)

Directions:

Bring vinegar to a boil in a small pan.

Add gelatin and stir until dissolved.

Add extract and stir until mixed.

Brush on thin layer onto back of an envelope flap.

Let dry.

Moisten to apply.

Store excess glue in a sealed container and melt again for future use by putting in a pan of warm water.

They also just suggest putting two sided tape on the envelope then you can remove the backing before sticking it down.

From About.com

Materials Needed:

  • 1 Envelope Plain, Unflavored Gelatin
  • 4 Tablespoons Water
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Light Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Lemon or Peppermint Extract
  • Old Paint Brush or Foam Brush

Instructions:
Pour the envelope of gelatin into a small cup with 1 tablespoon of cool water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. In a small pot, heat the remaining 3 tablespoons of water. Pour in the gelatin water mixture and stir. Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water and then remove it from the heat.

Add the corn syrup to your hot mixture and stir until it is dissolved; then add the lemon or peppermint extract and stir well. Set your glue aside and allow it to cool.

Once your mixture is cool enough to touch, use an old paint brush or a foam brush to apply a thin layer of the glue to your envelope. Let it sit undisturbed until dry. If they start to curl, simply flatten them once the glue is dry by leaving them under a phone book or other heavy object for awhile.

To use your envelope, moisten the back by licking it or dabbing it with a damp cloth, and stick it to paper. The glue can be stored in the refrigerator and should be heated to thin it out when you are ready to use it again.

Let me know how it turns out!

Father's Day Mini Burger Basket

At our club meeting, we made these cute little hamburgers and fries. I copied the fries, fry holder, and basket from Bakerella. You can download them from her site, and drool over her yummy looking hamburgers. I decided to use an easier recipe which I found at Very Best Baking after I had seen them here. I used a wax paper which was waxy on one side and paper on the other to stamp on. I don't know if you can use StazOn on regular wax paper or not, but since mine was paper on one side, my Real Red ink didn't smudge after a few minutes of drying. Hope you try these out!

In this box (which fit neatly through my Cuttlebug with two sets of B plates), I wrapped four Hershey's miniature candy bars.

Now, I can't wait for tomorrow when I get one more box from the UPS man with all the supplies for the Mother's Day class. See you soon!

Hello Stamp Club!

Are you getting ready for Next Monday? I've got some really good projects lined up! One involves homemade treats (with AG's help)! We'll also be making a Mother's Day gift, too.

Now that you have some supplies in your collection, I'd like to challenge you to make something for Monday night. I'm working on something, too. It will give you an "assignment" and it will be neat to see everyone's ideas for how they have used their Stampin' Up! supplies.

If you don't have time to work on one this week or weekend, don't worry, I'm not giving grades for this assignment -- it's just for fun! So see what you can do!

I'm also linking to a neat site that I found called pagemaps. It's a site full of templates for card making and scrapbook pages. Just click on the left side of the page for whatever kind of template you want. Find the site at:

Have fun!

Hi everyone! I'm working on a class project to share with you. It's a class on May 3rd. At the class, we'll be making a cute box and 8 cards with envelopes to go in the box! The cost of the class is $20. If you would like the project, but can't attend the class, I can ship it to you with some instructions.

Happy Birthday Box/Bag

I used my Bigz Top Note Die to cut out these labels. I don't have a Big Shot yet, but it fits perfectly through my Cuttlebug. I haven't tried the extra long dies, though. I also used an old original Sizzix die for the butterfly.
The stamp is from the Time to party set. I didn't circle my friend's birthday because (A) I didn't want to point out how old,er, young she is (just in case she's sensitive) and (B) she can regift the bag if she wants to!
Sorry again about the color correction...I've got to get better at that. I also used the Tea Party designer paper, cardstock, a 2" scallop circle punch, and certainly celery ink and ribbon.

See you next time!

For You!

This tiny favor box is one that I cut out on my Silhouette. It is a tuck flap closure box. I used thick brown paper (not cardstock). When you cut out these boxes on the Silhouette, it is a good idea to use solid core cardstock as the cut (score) lines will not show as much. I added a curly label with the tiny "with love" stamp from the Yummy SAB set. The flowers are part of a stamp from the Eight Great Greetings.

Happy Easter Box

This is a little box/bag for Easter. When you pull off the ribbon, the flap opens to reveal whatever goodies you decide to put in! I used the bunny stamp from Eight Great Greetings. I cut out the bunny and the sentiment separate. I used the Tea Party designer paper, certainly celery grosgrain ribbon and cardstock. I colored the bunny with the Stampin' Pastels and a blender pen. Sorry about the color on the middle image. I guess I didn't do the color correction very well! Oops!
The designer paper is reversible so the top flap is just the other side of the paper. I love how all of the SU paper, ribbon, and cardstock coordinates!

Little Card

When I got the hostess set, "Comfort Food", I couldn't wait to use it! This little stamp is so cute! I used the Stampin' Pastels and a blender pen to color in the image. I used 1 1/2" and 2" scallop circle punches. I inked the edges of everything and used the Always in Bloom wheel on the inside and the outside of the card.

Halloween Favor

A friend described a little Halloween box to me. After her description, I came up with this.

I got the template from Stampin' Up! After I cut out the box template, inked the edges, and added some punches.

The spider is a Martha Stewart punch and the Boo is a punch I ordered a couple of years ago from Oriental trading company. Then, it had to be punched again, and I used my 1 1/2" scallop circle punch.

Friend Card

This card uses the all holidays stamp set. I also used a Cuttlebug texture plate on the blue cardstock. To make the image "pop" I rubbed it with VersaMark ink. I used pop dots on the sentiment and then added some other embellishment: flower, ribbon, and clear button.

Werewolf Party

My husband decided to have a werewolf party. It's a fun game that you play with lots of people. You don't need to buy the game, but if you do, it's easier to play and there are more options. I have even introduced it to my seventh graders when we have downtime, and they love it!

First, David made a letter from "the village mayor" to a "friend" asking the friend to come to town to witness the strange things that are happening in the village. Here's the word document (for some reason the handwritten font didn't come through on the upload) and a picture of the finished product. He cut it out with the paper trimmer then used my creme brulee torch to burn the edges -- the house stunk, but at least the torch is getting some use! :)

Next, he made some tokens out of polymer clay with a werewolf symbol on them and marked each with a unique letter stamp. The guests are going to bring the tokens with them to the party and the token that is drawn will win a copy of the werewolf game.

Then, he put it in the envelopes and sealed it with red wax. I'll let you know how the party turned out!

February Stamp Club Projects

Hi guys! I've got some pictures of the projects we did on Monday so that you can assemble yours. You'll need to provide a glue stick or SNAIL (the tape adhesive runner). Other than that, you should be able to put it all together without any additional supplies.

The first project we did was a tiny milk-carton style box.

To assemble the box:
  1. Pop out the box and discard outer pieces and the pieces inside the handles.
  2. Fold along all score lines (the dashed lines).
  3. Fold over the small flap and place glue on this flap, then fold over the box to meet the flap. If you need help with this part, let me know.
  4. To create the bottom of the box, fold in the flap with the "tongue" first, then the opposite flap. Finally, tuck the remaining two tabs into the slot created.
  5. Attach all three circles with the brad then place dimensional adhesives on the back of your flower and attach to the box.
  6. Fill with a few small treats and tie the ribbon on, if desired.
Materials used:
Quikutz Silhouette Carton template
Generic textured cardstock
Stampin Up cardstock (pink, green, and white)
Eastern Bloom stamp with Pixie Pink ink
2" scallop punch, 1 1/2" scallop punch, 1" circle punch
Yellow brad, assorted ribbon

The second project was the "Thanks, I needed that card". To assemble this card:
  1. Layer the stamped image on the green cardstock.
  2. Adhere the cardstock to the pink card.
Materials used:

Stampin Up cardstock (pink, green, and white)
Stamps: Fun and Fast Notes, and Fast Flowers Wheel
Pastels

See you soon!

Hi, everyone!

So, I just created a blog! It only took about 1 minute. I hope that future posting takes about that long, too.

Tonight, we just finished our first ever stamp club, and I think it went really well. I need to work on my photo skills and get my "photo-studio-in-a-cardboard box" out so that I can impress everyone with my scant photography skills.

For those of you that were not able to make it, I'll try to get the instructions on here by Thursday or Friday.

Thanks for stopping by!
